Prize winners at the Department of Law 2018

Teacher of the year

Eva Naur Jensen gets the prize as teacher of the year due to her dedication to teaching. For many years, she has been involved in the work on improving and developing teaching, and her commitment has been enormous. She has been rethinking teaching of repeaters in family and succession law, worked with electronic peer assessment via Peergrade, and developed the course in written law at PhD and Master´s levels. Through this work, Eva has for example brought methodical skills, the good writing process and strengthening of academic understanding into focus.

Article of the year

Karsten Engsig Sørensen receives the prize for the article of the year on the basis of his article: “Nudging for Corporate Long-Termism and Sustainability? Regulatory Instruments from a Comparative and Functional Perspective”, which he has written together with Professor Florian Möslein (Philipps-University Marburg). The article is published in Columbia Journal of European Law (CJEL), which is the top journal in the US with focus on European jurisprudence. In the article, Karsten and Florian examine how legislators, especially in different EU Member States, have used various forms of regulatory intervention to ’nudge’ companies particularly in the direction of  ’long-termism’ and ’sustainability’. He receives the prize, because he has made an original contribution to a topic of current interest at a very high level. No doubt, this article has a high impact factor.

Performance of the year

Linda Andersen receives the prize for performance of the year, because she always takes a large and competent responsibility for her work tasks. She thinks for herself when performing her work tasks, and her work is always of high quality. If any clarification is needed in connection with her work, Linda will identify this need and address and solve the problem. Thus, we can always be sure that Linda does high- quality work without any loose ends. Linda is thorough and is attentive to details. Furthermore, she is always willing to take on ekstra jobs and to make an extra effort when necessary.

PhD of the year

This year´s prize as PhD of the year is shared between Line Herman Langkjær and Kristian Graven Nielsen.

They are both ideal PhD fellows: they have written two very good PhD theses. Furthermore, they have both made an extra effort, when it was needed, and they both contribute to the good social environment at the Department.

Line receives the prize for her thesis, which in particular deals with Danish law and EU law in the interface between insolvency law and procedural law. Thus, it describes a practical and essential topic, which attaches more and more importance, as many bankrupted companies have a connection with other countries. In their assessment, the assessment committee came to the conclusion that the thesis  was at a level which no doubt is equivalent to the international standards for a PhD in law. Furthermore, the committee found that the analyses in the thesis were good and thorough and demonstrated a good understanding of the problems and a large research potential. Line has written a legal dogmatic thesis, which includes high -level analyses in some of the areas of the law which are essential to bankruptcy proceedings in practice, and thus she can position the Department within the area of insolvency law.

Kristian receives the prize on the basis of his thesis on liability for damages in connection with pricing of cooperative housing (andelsboliger), because he has completed his PhD training in an exemplary manner and written a very good thesis. It is clear from the assessment of Kristian´s thesis “that there is reason for praising the author´s convincing demonstration of overview of a large number of complex problems at many levels involving many parties and branching. The work shows an intellectual strength, which is an academic merit. The problems in the thesis are thoroughly dealt with, and due to the relevance of the topic, the practical value of the thesis can hardly be overestimated”.
